GSE Index
1 April 2026
1. Summary
The GSE Index is a dynamic, multi-factor benchmarking tool designed to answer the fundamental question: "How is the GSE performing?" Upon receipt, every signal within the GSE is assigned an initial index score ranging from 0 to 100. A score of 100 represents the highest active threat level, while a score of 0 indicates the signal has been fully mitigated.
Our primary performance objective is to increase the delta (𝚫)—the rate of change—between these two points. By accelerating this downward delta, we ensure that signals move from high-threat levels to mitigation with maximum speed and efficiency.
2. The Algorithm
To maintain the security and integrity of the platform and prevent manipulation by malicious actors, the full technical specifications of the GSE Index algorithm are not published. However, the score is dynamically influenced by the following key factors:
- Vendor-Supplied Confidence Score: Establishes the baseline GSE Index upon initial report receipt.
- GSE Enrichment Data: We utilise feedback reports to identify supply chain actors. We then apply adjustments to the Index based on our internal "league tables," which track the volume and frequency of reports associated with specific supply chain components.
- Action Feedback Reports: Submissions from the GSE community regarding actions taken on a signal. These reports serve to discount the GSE Index, reflecting successful actions taken.
3. Benchmarking Use Cases
The GSE Index allows for granular benchmarking across signals, feeds, groups, and the platform’s overall performance.
- Signals: Each signal is assigned an initial Signal Index (0–100). These indices are adjusted dynamically based on new intelligence, such as automation results (e.g., URL routing status) or community feedback (e.g., false positive evidence). The objective of the GSE community is to drive the Index score down as rapidly as possible, thereby maximizing the delta (𝚫).
- Feeds: All feeds are assigned a Feed Index, which reflects the average index of its signals, adjusted for vendor reputation weighting, reporting cadence, and immediacy.
- Groups and Views: Groups (private feed collections shared by GSE Partners) and Views (individual entity collections) are assigned an Alert Level (High, Medium, or Low). This level reflects the current average Feed Index of all collections within that Group or View (Group Index).
- Overall Performance: The Overall GSE Index represents the average Feed Index of every feed on the platform, serving as a single, comprehensive performance measure for the GSE.
